FREE PLANNING TOOL

Downtime cost calculator

Separate disrupted staff time, lost gross profit and recovery spending.

Estimate the consequence of an outage with assumptions you can explain. Choose whether to include idle labour so you do not count it twice in lost gross profit.

Planning estimates only. Defaults are illustrative assumptions, not supplier quotes. Edit them for your business. Monetary inputs are AUD excluding GST unless a field says otherwise.

Method, assumptions and limitations

Disrupted labour value = hours × staff × loaded hourly labour × productivity lost. Lost gross profit = hours × hourly revenue × gross margin × permanently lost sales fraction. Combined exposure = lost gross profit + additional recovery spending, plus disrupted labour only if explicitly selected.

Sales delayed until later are not permanently lost. Idle labour is shown separately by default because gross profit can already fund the same wages. If labour is included in your cost-of-sales margin, adding all idle labour can also double count it. Recovery spending should contain only extra costs, not wages or supplier fees already counted. This is a scenario model, not an accounting loss calculation.
